In collaboration with the Waymouth Lab at Stanford University, IBM researchers have developed a new continuous flow platform that creates new materials -- with potential applications from medicine to manufacturing -- in a matter of minutes as opposed to days or weeks. This new approach to chemical synthesis holds promise in accelerating therapeutic discovery, which is urgently needed as microbes become increasingly resistant to existing treatments. This new approach to high-throughput materials synthesis is detailed in a new paper in the Journal of the American Chemistry Society.
